The screenshots above are from the first externally distributed build of Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. The build number is 10A96 and was distributed to developers at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference during the week of June 9, 2008.Apple has a limited amount of information about Snow Leopard on its Web site.
Snow Leopard will ship in 2009.
As its name implies (a variation of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard), Snow Leopard will effectively be a beefed-up version of Leopard. No major new features are planned, instead Apple is working to substantially optimize the code so that everything on a Mac runs faster with more security and stability.
While Snow Leopard is said to be fully 64-bit, as the screenshots show it will work on 32-bit (Core Solo and Core Duo) Intel processors. It will not be compatible with PowerPC, although Orchard Spy has learned that Apple is at this point continuing to churn out builds for PowerPCbut only internally.
